Elected to Parliament in 2010 after a 15yr career in technology venture capital, George has held a number of key Science & Technology Ministerial roles under 4 Prime Ministers over the last 14years leading the UK’s industrial strategies for Life Science, Agritech, Space, Quantum & BioEngineering.
Following his re-election to Parliament for the fifth time in 2024, he was elected Deputy Chair of the Science & Technology Select Committee and appointed by the Prime Minister as UK Trade and Investment Envoy in ASEAN.
Having started his working career in agriculture as a management trainee with Greens of Soham, George has been a longstanding advocate for precision agriculture, vertical farming and AgriTech.
A former Non Exec Director of Elsoms Seeds, In 2007 he joined the board of the Norwich Research Park Iceni Fund where he oversaw the focus on AgriTech, BioMed & Cleantech. In 2010 he was elected Chair of the All Party Group for Agritech and in 2014 as the first Minister for Agritech George launched the UK Agritech Industrial Strategy (Agritech Catalyst Fund, regional Agri Innovation Centres & AgriMetrics Hub at Rothamsted).
A longstanding advocate of Uk Agri regulatory leadership, he co-chaired the Taskforce on Innovation Growth & Regulatory Reform. As Minister for science he championed UK regulatory leadership in gene editing through the precision breeding Act.
In 2024 he was re-elected Chair of the APPG for AgriTech where he is leading the #30:50:50 campaign for a UK equivalent of the US Dept Agriculture strategy to double UK productivity while halving emissions.
