Alastair was born in 1950 into a farming family in east Suffolk. He gained a National Diploma in General Engineering in 1967 at Anglia Ruskin University and went on to complete a National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering in 1970 at Writtle University College. Alan began his early career as a training instructor with CLAAS UK Ltd. In 1972. He worked his way up the ranks in roles such as Regional Service, National Service Manager, After Sales Manager, Co. Director; and eventually went onto become the Deputy CEO in 2012. Alongside this, Alastair was Chairman of the Agricultural Engineers Association Training Committee (2010 - 2015), Member of EurAgEng & The Institution of Agricultural Engineers gaining an Award of Merit in 2018, CLAAS Scholarship Awards Judge – 2019, for PhD & BSc student applications in English language. He has judged in the LAMMA Innovation Awards from 2020 – present.
