Trenchers are an item of plant machinery that are essential in the agricultural sector. They are used for various tasks, including - the cutting of tracks and pavements, the laying of water and sewage pipes, the installation of drainage and irrigation systems and efficient tree root removal.
This practical course focuses on the safe and efficient operation of Trenchers. It is suitable for both novice and experienced farm workers who need certification. Upon successful completion of training and testing, participants will obtain an NPORS Operator Card.
Learning Outcomes:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
- Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements.
- Safely mount and dismount the machine.
- Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for trencher use.
- Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out trenching tasks.
- Carry out trencher tasks.
- Load material onto transporting vehicles or into containers.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
- Environmental considerations.
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
NPORS N203 Trencher training is delivered by a network of NPORS Accredited Training Providers – spanning across the UK and beyond. All training providers and instructors are rigorously monitored and audited, making sure instructors consistently deliver to NPORS standards.
