NPORS Chainsaw: Maintenance & Cross Cutting Training
This practical course is suitable for those who occasionally use chainsaws as a part of their job, or are a new chainsaw user. It provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to maintain a chainsaw and crosscut timber safely. Upon successful completion of training and testing, participants will obtain an NPORS Operator Card.
The NPORS N602 Chainsaw: Maintenance & Cross Cutting training is especially suited for those working on farms, estates, building sites, in forestry and as part of landscaping teams.
Learning Outcomes:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements.
- Select suitable type of machine relative to the work to be undertaken.
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting use.
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
- Prepare for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently.
- Environmental considerations.
- Storage and transport of chainsaw – maintenance and cross cutting.
- Disposal of cut materials.
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
