Cost effective installation, fast cooling and the ability to cope with the demands of large quantities of grain are on any store operator’s wish list when choosing a ventilation system.

Cost effective installation, fast cooling and the ability to cope with the demands of large quantities of grain are on any store operator’s wish list when choosing a ventilation system.

Martin Lishman’s proven FloorVent system ticks all the boxes with installations taking place in new builds across the UK and Europe. Offering a highly efficient cooling solution, the system utilizes the same high airflow perforated tube as the company’s popular Pile-Dry Pedestals but uses underfloor ducts instead of vertical columns to vent hot air directly to the exterior of the building for optimum cooling.

Aimed primarily at new builds, much of the preparatory work for installing the system can be completed using standard materials sourced from building merchants, which can greatly reduce installation costs. Retrofitting existing stores is possible, Martin Lishman recently supplied the system for a refurbished 11,000 ton grain store in France to run the FloorVent system.

FloorVent comprises of removable perforated pedestal sections spaced out across the store, which are linked by under-floor ducting to energy efficient cooling fans outside the building. As Joel Capper, National Sales Manager for Martin Lishman Ltd explains, “Placing fans outside the store allows warm air to discharge directly out of the building so it can be replaced by cool air drawn in through the building’s louvres. This removes the possibility of warm air being drawn back into the grain as cooling takes place, making the process highly efficient, and avoids the need for building extraction fans, further saving on installation and energy costs.”

The removable pedestal sections can be replaced with manhole covers, allowing different sections of the building to be used for storage in a flexible manner, and to make loading and unloading easier. Some customers have even used this design feature for cooling different varieties of crops in the same store.
