Aerworx Completes Field Trials

Field trials across 3 farms were performed using the Aerworx A330 aerator.
The trial was based on a single pass only; using the same aerator and weight; using the same driver/ technique/speed.
The farms experienced similar rainfall +/- 5mm – but rainfall was significantly below average for the month and the majority fell in the 3 days before 4 week measurements were taken - grass was yet to even reap the benefits of this rainfall.
Trial 24 Results:
- 24 times the increase in DM yield of aerated compared with non aerated ( range 9.1 – 39)
- Aerated grassland showed an 11% increase in yield despite poor rainfall ( range 5.5 – 14.8) compared to a 0.67% increase in yield in non aerated ground.
- Compaction factor ( infiltration rate of ground compared to hedgerow control )
Pre aeration CF av 20.7 ( range: 3.1 – 49.3) ie infilration rates were 20 times worse for fields compared with unmanaged hedgerow soil
Post aeration CF av 9.9 ( range 1.2 – 26) ie after a single pass with the aerator, infiltration rates improved so that they were now only 9 times worse than under the hedge compared to 20 times pre aeration.
Ie a 61% improvement in ground compared to the hedgerow soil after a single pass.
NB the farm with the best CF had been aerated with Aerworx 2.5yrs ago!
- Infiltration rates – 72% improvement after a single pass ( range: 63- 78%)
- Soil scores – determined to be subjective and crude but averaged a 1.66 improvement in visual score after one pass.
More trials are currently underway looking at the impact of applying various different soil conditioners, with and without the advance use of Aerworx.
