LAMMA to fund next-generation engineers at Riseholme College

An innovative agreement between Riseholme College, a part of Bishop Burton, and Briefing Media, owners of the LAMMA event (The UK’s largest Agricultural Machinery & Services Exhibition) is set to benefit young people training in the field of land-based technology for three years.

LAMMA has announced that it will continue to work with staff at Riseholme College to encourage young people into the diverse technological side of the agricultural sector through the College’s Level 2 Diploma in Land-based Engineering.

As part of the three-year agreement, scholarships will be available to young people starting the course, equipping them with their own toolkit and a financial bursary to support their studies. The financial support provided by LAMMA will be worth £30,000 over the next three years. Since 2008, the organisation has supported Riseholme students by donating almost £100,000 to its scholarship programme.

Jeanette Dawson OBE, Chief Executive and Principal of Riseholme College, said:

“The College is delighted with the generous support provided by LAMMA and Briefing Media for learners undertaking the Level 2 Diploma in Land-based Technology. By working together we can provide a programme which is tailored to the needs of employers and which will encourage new entrants – vital to the industry’s future.

“Land-based Technology is a broad, dynamic sector offering a huge range of opportunities for individuals with the appropriate skills. The Level 2 Diploma is intended to develop basic land-based engineering skills and to form a solid foundation for a rewarding career.”

Commenting on the initiative, Briefing Media CEO, Neil Thackray, said:

“One of the principal aims of LAMMA has been to support and represent the Lincolnshire agricultural sector. To do this, we need to invest in the future of that sector and that’s why we are proud to support this programme.

“The agricultural engineering sector is a rapidly and ever-changing environment so it’s great to see that Riseholme College continues to innovate and invest in its facilities, its people and its resources. The outstanding facilities at the College’s new Showground Campus are testament to that, and provide an ideal setting for the engineers of the future to learn their craft.”

Students completing the one-year Level 2 Diploma in Land-based Engineering can go on to specialise in a range of technological disciplines within the agricultural sector.

Steve Dennis, Workshop Manager at Riseholme College, who teaches Land-based Technology students, said:

“This agreement will give the students a direct link to the industry, helping to feed the next generation of engineers into the sector. The scholarships that are now on offer will provide the students with access to a wealth of experience and will help to equip them with the tools needed to work in industry from the day they complete their studies. These young people have got a future in an industry that is advancing faster than most industries in the world.”

"We will reap the rewards from coming to LAMMA. Lots of leads, lots of requests for special orders, and building our profile has been something that has stood out for us exhibiting at LAMMA. I don't think you can put a monetary value on that at all." James Hudson, Director, JF Hudson (First time LAMMA exhibitor)
